Latest Version Everything
Everything is a search utility that locates files and folders by filename instantly on the Windows OS. But, unlike Windows’ search function, Everything will initially displays every file and folder on your computer.
Everything can rapidly locate any files and folders by name on an NTFS volume. You simply type in a search filter to limit what files and folders are displayed and voila! your search brings back everything within those parameters.
After installation and running the app for the first time, Everything creates an index of the names of every file and folder on the volume from the file metadata in the NTFS Master File Table. As all mounted NTFS volumes are indexed, it is continually updated by the app from the NTFS change journal. Everything then searches this index for file names matching your search terms and parameters.
The only downside to using Everything is that because it relies on the change journal, Everything can only search NTFS volumes, therefore it can’t be used to locate files on a USB flash drive, for instance.
Overall, Everything is a smart little utility that uses hardly any memory, or processor time for that matter, to operate effectively. The interface is based on a standard explorer window, and users of all levels of expertise will be able to get to grips with it very easily.
